NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION
TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF
BEN HILL COUNTY, GEORGIA
 

YOU ARE HEREBY NOTIFIED that on the 21st day of March, 2017, a special election will be held in Ben Hill County, Georgia, at which time the qualified voters of Ben Hill County, Georgia, will elect a successor to the position of County Surveyor.

Each candidate seeking to qualify for the position of County Surveyor shall file a notice of candidacy with the Election Superintendent/Chairman, David Walker, at the office of the Ben Hill County Board of Elections and Registration, located at 115 W. Pine Street, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, during qualifying week. Said notices of candidacy shall be submitted from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on February 6 - 9, 2017, and from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on February 10, 2017. The qualifying fee for the position is $88.14. If a candidate declares a party affiliation, such party affiliation shall be listed on the ballot next to his or her name.

The date of such special election shall be and is hereby set for March 21, 2017. The polling precincts (Arbor Baptist Church and Monitor Center) shall be opened at 7:00 a.m. and closed at 7:00 p.m. on the day fixed for the special election. The special election shall be held in accordance and in conformity with the Constitution and laws of the United States of America and of the State of Georgia; and the returns of such election shall be made to the Election Superintendent for Ben Hill County, Georgia, who shall count the votes, consolidate the returns and declare the results of said special election in the manner required by law.

The last day to register to vote for said special election is Tuesday, February 21, 2017.

PURSUANT TO GEORGIA LAW, ALL VOTERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO SHOW PROPER IDENTIFICATION WHEN VOTING.

Proper identification shall include the following:

  • Georgia driverʼs license (even if expired);
  • valid state or federal govt. issued photo ID;
  • valid Georgia voter ID card;
  • valid employee photo ID from any branch, dept., agency, or entity of the US
  • govt., Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of the State of Georgia;
  • valid U.S. passport ID;
  • valid U.S. military photo ID; and
  • valid tribal photo ID


If a voter is unable to produce any of the forms of ID abovementioned, he or she may be allowed to vote by provisional ballot upon the requirements of Georgia law being met.

This notice is given pursuant to a resolution of the Ben Hill County Board of Elections and Registration, adopted on January 13, 2017.
