Ben Hill Board of Elections getting settled into new building

ALBANY, GA -- Ben Hill County held a ribbon cutting for their Board of Elections and Registration building Thursday afternoon.

Planning Director James Miller says this building is two times bigger than the previous building, has better security for election equipment and is fully American's With Disabilities Act compliant.

Miller adds that this move helped revitalized downtown; adding to the convenience for the residents and allows the whole county to come and vote.

Since the move into the new building around Christmas, more trainings for the southern region for other election offices have been held in Ben Hill County. For example, Cindy Dunlap with the Board of Elections says recently the Secretary of State of Georgia came down to host a workshop on redistricting software.

Dunlap said, "the flexibility to hold different voter education classes in a wide spectrum from elected official to voter training" is a benefit to having the new building and space.

The new building will be primarily used for the Board of Elections as well as early voting; it's located on 115 West Pine Avenue. Early voting starts April 5th and advance voting for primary/nonpartisan election begins April 28th.

Dunlap adds "we're here and available anytime when it comes to registration or voting."
