The Ocmulgee Water Trail Partnership

January 2014 – After many months of preliminary meetings and planning, under the guidance of Charlotte Gillis, Landscape Architect for the National Park Service Rivers, Trails & Conservation Assistance Program, the Ocmulgee Water Trail Partnership has followed suit of other Water Trail Partnerships both in Georgia and throughout the Nation and has officially come into existence.

At the beginning of January, the Partnership adopted its bylaws and elected its first officers. The group has already established itself on the internet with a wonderful web site that can be found at http://ocmulgeewatertrail.com/. The officers are: President Karen Bailey-Pulaski County, Vice-Pres Lee Slade-Pulaski County, Secretary Jimmy Joines-Dodge County, and Treasurer Robert Hendricks-Telfair County.

The Ocmulgee Water Trail Partnership, Inc. is organized, and shall be operated, primarily for the following purposes: to increase nature-based tourism and promote economic development in the counties adjoining the Ocmulgee River between Macon and the Altamaha (specifically: Ben Hill, Bibb, Bleckley, Coffee, Dodge, Houston, Jeff Davis, Pulaski, Telfair, Twiggs, and Wilcox Counties),

to market the river corridor as a tourist destination, upgrade public facilities along the river to better service Ocmulgee River-based recreational activities, and educate the general public about the river, its natural features, and environmental threats to it.
