On January 2, the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Division and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations arrested Jesse Lamar Batten, 28, of 118 Brookhill Dr. for trafficking in methamphetamine also known as “Ice.” The Sheriff’s Office requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s assistance due to the movements of Batten and his co-conspirators around Georgia and other areas. Both agencies launched the investigation into Batten’s activities several months ago and after numerous hours of surveillance and investigation decided to make the arrest and close the investigation. As a result of the investigation approximately one pound of methamphetamine was seized with a street value of around $54,500.00, making this the largest methamphetamine arrest in Ben Hill County history. In the ongoing case several other individuals are being investigated and more arrests are expected to be made from this case. The Sheriff's Office has been following and tracking Batten's movements for some time when he was picking up his load and picked him up when he was returning with a load.
